Video work varies. l prefer to work with the artists to discuss a shared vision of how they wish to promote themselves. There is no right or wrong here. Footage can be as simple as documenting the recording process itself or we can get as avant-garde as you’d like with more creative visual elements added or in place of. I have a background in film making and I’m no stranger to experimentation. Let’s collaborate!

*Videos formatted [aspect ratios] for both YouTube and Social Media.

drum Lessons

Beginner / Intermediate:$60 - 1.5 hours

The first half begins with the student and I, each on our kit, practicing rudiments together. I think it’s important to mirror each other and discuss/play the basics before approaching anything else. A warm-up.

The second half is loose. Show me some stuff. What do you like? How can I help? Let’s watch some cool videos and talk about it. Anything in particular you want to learn? Let’s dive in.

Books I teach with:

1) Buddy Rich’s Modern Interpretation of snare drum rudiments

written in collaboration with Henry Adler, revised by Ted Mackenzie (a former teacher of mine)

2) 4-Way Coordination by Marvin Dahlgren. A method book for the development of complete independence on the drum set.

3) Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer by Jim Chapin.

About Me:

36 years old. A professional working musician for 15 years working in various jazz/rock/funk bands.

Touring, festivals, jazz clubs, residencies, weddings, parties, you name it, I’ve played it.

Mostly self-taught with many private lessons along the way. Ted Mackenzie of NY taught me the rudiments. Paul Romaine of CU Jazz taught me jazz. Art Lande of Colorado taught me how to improvise and approach music like a painter paints.

Logos/Ethos/Pathos:

1. Above everything else, music is supposed to be fun.

2. The better you are, the more fun you have.

“You’ve got to learn your instrument. Then, you practice, practice, practice. And then, when you finally get up there on the bandstand, forget all that and just wail.” -Charlie Parker

It takes discipline, there’s no other way around it.

3. Learn to laugh through the pain. Sometimes it’s the approach that determines how well or quickly someone learns something.

4. It’s never too late to learn and I still have so much more to go. Maybe you can teach me something, too :)
